Iranian Quran expert highlights Tarteel as core principle of Quranic recitation

Renowned Iranian Quran teacher Seyed Mohsen Mousavi Baladeh underscored the significance of Tarteel in Quranic revelation, recitation, and implementation. Speaking at a gathering of students on National Teacher’s Day, he emphasized that the gradual revelation of the Quran over 23 years reflects divine order.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Seyed Mohsen Mousavi Baladeh, a renowned Iranian Quran teacher who has guided multiple generations of Quran reciters, emphasized the fundamental importance of Tarteel — a structured and measured style of Quranic recitation — in both the revelation and recitation of the Holy Quran.

During an event attended by his students in honor of National Teacher’s Day, Mousavi Baladeh spoke about the central role of Tarteel, not only in Quranic recitation but also in the process of revelation and the application of its teachings. He described it as the underlying spirit that shaped the delivery of divine guidance.

Explaining the significance of order and balance, he asserted that Tarteel must be observed in all aspects—its revelation, its recitation, and the implementation of its commandments. He stressed that consistency in these areas ensures a comprehensive understanding and proper application of Quranic wisdom.

Mousavi Baladeh further pointed out that the Quran was revealed over 23 years, reflecting the principle of Tarteel in practice. He explained that the gradual revelation of verses corresponded to the needs of the time, citing the Battle of Uhud as an example, where specific guidance was given to the Muslim community in response to their circumstances.

In terms of recitation, he noted that Tarteel requires moderation, avoiding excessive speed or extreme slowness. He emphasized that proper recitation flows naturally—maintaining a structured rhythm that ensures clarity and contemplation.
